Interprete The 'Days' Literally?

"The position that the Bible should be interpreted literally seems difficult to defend. Many passages in the Bible seem to harshly conflict with that statment. For instance, why is the Creation week considered to be 6 literal 24 hour days yet in Genesis 2:4 it not considered literal? Genesis 2:4 These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens. This tells us that heaven and earth were made in one day. Why do you say 'day' means 24 hours in Genesis 1 but 'day' doesn't mean that in Genesis 2:4?"

Bacteria Evolving?

"Chemosynthetic bacteria live in conditions (near deep-sea hydrothermal vents) that are much like the "proposed" environment of about 4 billion years ago when life is thought to have first evolved in a primordial sea. Because these life forms don't need sunlight to live, don't they support the theory that the first life forms may have evolved and survived in such a hostile environment and later gave rise to more complex life forms as the environment changed?"
